Abstract

Different States and Territories have developed varied models of care and protocols for audiology assessment, based on the population they serve and resources.

In NSW, infant diagnostic assessments are only provided in the three Pediatric Hospitals, with some families traveling a long distance to access services. Hence, obtaining all information needed in the one appointment is important to reduce burden to families.

At Sydney Children’s Hospital, during the one 3-hour appointment, all information required for the fitting of amplification needs to be collected. The minimum information required for management of the hearing loss is stipulated in the recently developed NSW Minimum Standards for Infant Diagnostic assessment, developed in consultation with key stakeholders.

This Document represented an opportunity to evaluate our service against agreed State standards, to identify areas for improvement.

The outcome of the audit will be presented, particularly number of appointments that were necessary to complete the diagnostic assessments, compliance with minimum information required for referral to HA as per NSW Minimum Standards for Infant Diagnostic assessment, diagnostic accuracy, and achievement of the KPI for completion of diagnosis.
